Vacation, all I ever wanted; Vacation, had to get away!!

Just when I think my girlish silliness and athleticism (or at least what I perceive to be athleticism) have vanished with the last truckload of Aidan's dirty diapers, Larr and I sneak off to our beloved River's Edge Cottages and rediscover what it means to be alive and young. No matter how cruel or stressful the "real world" can be, Larr and I can always count on our little piece of heaven in the mountains to help us unwind, reconnect, and just...well...goof off! And this trip was particularly fun since Larr and I successfully completed the hike we couldn't make it through last time. Hey, don't laugh! That mountain is friggin' HUGE! It makes it easy to remember just how tiny we really are in this great big world. Totally humbling. And it's so peaceful! The only sound to be heard is the rushing of the river and the occasional hoot owl. We had such a great time. Meme (that's my mom) graciously offered to keep Ace while we were gone, so no worries there. We packed up several of our board games (you have to make your own fun since there's no TV or telephone...que the Hallelujah Chorus), PLENTY of food (we really splurged in that area...I was seriously so bloated when we left; it was disgusting), and about a week's worth of clothes for a just a couple of days. See, you never really know how warm or cold it'll be up there, so it's best just to be prepared. I highly recommend this place to you guys. The cabin we stayed in, the Mountain Escape, is designed to cater to couples, but they have others that would be great for families, too. Check out the photo gallery for more pictures of the hike and our cabin.

Aidan and Blue

posted by Larr at 4:27 PM
Aidan's favorite tv show is Blue's Clues. Pretty much every morning he runs into the living room and points at the tv wanting us to turn on one of the many Blue's Clues episodes we have recorded. Ask him if he wants to watch Blue when we are in another room and he turns and sprints into the living room. He dances and does most of the gestures during the songs. Click here to download a video clip of him dancing. Check out the picture below of Aidan watching Blue in the morning before he heads of to Mother's Day Out. Remember when we were kids and assumed the same position to watch our favorite cartoon? It's so cool to see things come full circle like that.
