Alright class, settle down now...

posted by Christi at 9:54 PM
Well it's official! I signed my contract with North Lamar yesterday and am now a bonafide....wait for it.......teacher. I honestly thought this day would never get here, you guys. God has totally answered my prayers on this one. Not only do I get to teach at North Lamar, my alma mater and birthplace of some of my greatest memories and friendships, but I also get my own room! I know, I know. You're probably thinking, "Wow, woman! You must've done something so fabulous that Somebody upstairs just plain sat up and took some notice!" Well, as if things couldn't get any better, my room is right next door to my mom's! Crazy, huh?! Oh the shenanigans we'll get into....but I digress!
I've got a pretty decent schedule, too. They have me teaching English I and English III. That's freshman and juniors. Now I do have some mixed feelings about this. I adore freshman. Don't ask me why; I think I'm the only one who does. And juniors are okay, but that's the exit year for TAKS, meaning I have to prepare them to pass the TAKS test or they don't pass....well, high school. That's a lot of pressure on a first year teacher! But the plus side? The juniors that I'll have were my freshman when I was doing my student teaching, so we've worked on TAKS together before. They know me and what I expect of them, which is gonna be a huge help, I think. So it's cool; no worries. I'll take a sedative, slap on a smile, and maybe even teach these kids something! Well, either that, or they'll turn me into that woman up there. Yeah, wish me luck.

I'm so happy for you Christi! I know you are going to be a great teacher!! Good luck! And I would have to think Freshman would probably be the best out of the grades to teach. They are still a little overwhelmed that they are in high school and they went from the upper classmen to the lower classman just like that! :D Have fun!!

Have a great time, I know you are a great teacher already. Much love

Congratulations, Christi. Welcome to the would of education. Don't sweat your TAKS. I bet you'll have a great mentor in your mom. I have always found teachers to be a sharing lot. I'm sure there will be others you can call on for help, also. Don't forget to join ATPE. You first year is only $75 and you get the assurance of having some professional liability coverage.

Congrats on your job, Christi! I know you waited a long time for one to come along. And how cool is it that you are going to be next door to your mom!! If you are at least half the teacher your mom is you have NOTHING to worry about. Well, I take that back...with your mom next door, you do have something to worry about. Don't let her get you into too much trouble.

Teaching can be very frustrating, but also very rewarding at the same time. You have been trained well, therefore, I know you will make a great teacher. North Lamar is lucky!
